SUMMER CAMP: GREAT BIG FUN FOR LITTLE ONES!
Summer season is coming! And dancing is an excellent way to stay in touch with our artistic side while still staying physically active. A dance camp is a lot of fun and helps you to see if dance is one area your girl or boy wants to continue to pursue throughout the year. A camp that offers more than dance, such as one that includes music, art, gymnastics and performance arts can further steer you into seeing which arts your little one could have a natural ability, or show a desire for.
Look for a program which includes a strong ballet foundation for ballet certainly is the basis of all dance. Even the 3- and 4- year olds need to be developing their motor skills with plenty of hopping, skipping and jumping. And they're never too young to be introduced to the ballet "barre." This is among their most memorable times for their dance world! Their movements should really be associated immediately with their correct ballet terminology. Learning these at a early age gives your child a firm foundation for virtually any dancing he or she may do down the road.
Variety is the spice of life; make sure that your child’s dance also includes some jazz, tap and improvisation (creative play!). Jazz brings power to their movements and tap helps them to develop rhythm; they start to learn music theory in terms of counting. As dance is performing art, it is important to make sure they are in a program that encourages them to express their imagination and self-expression through creative movement.
Summertime is a time of fun! So find a well-rounded camp that also offers the an opportunity to be introduced to new musical instruments, new kinds of physical movements, such as gymnastics and "cheer," various art forms and even an end of camp recital!
